John's Green Smoothie

What a wonderful surprise! I just found this in my inbox and wanted to post it so all can benefit. Thanks, Megan! (Check out Megan's blog. Her boys are too cute!)

Dear Shawna,

I was just looking at you recipe blog and wanted to mention how much I have enjoyed trying them out on my family. The Turkish Shell dish was a huge hit and Alex said it reminded him of when he lived in Turkey as a child. In addition, the simple cheese tortillas is a huge hit with John John.

I wanted to add some more tips/ ideas to your smoothie section. I make green smoothies, but sometimes they are time consuming or just plain messy to make. So, now I make a lot and put it in ice cube container, freezing the smoothie. Then you just add water, grapefruit juice, or orange juice to mix the smoothie cubes to a "smooth" texture. John loves his smoothie with orange juice. (Sometimes I squeeze oranges or just utilize orange juice already made. He likes the following:

John's Green Smoothie:
Handful of spinach in smaller blender
Pour orange juice, 'til covers spinach
Mix 'til spinach is almost liquefied.
Add handful of frozen strawberries, peaches, and blueberries
Add water or orange juice 'til it's as smooth as you want.
Pour into small cup with straw

Put left over smoothie into ice cube tray then once frozen store in ziplock bag.

This is great for kids and very nutritious for when pregnant or nursing. Though, don't drink too much too fast or will upset stomach because of so much greens and fruit at once.

Take Care and God Bless,
Megan
